Description
Up for sale is a 1:70 fully completed scale model of the Spanish ship Montañés. My mind was BLOWN when I found this ship in an antique store a few years ago and I had to get her. She is in pristine condition except for a little dust and a what appears to be a fractured mast(?) towards the back. She has dozens of solid brass cannons, brass bells, and numerous other brass and metal accents. The rigging on the ship is so thorough and detailed it’s honestly hard to comprehend. Alas, she is too big for our small home and we’ve never found the right place to display her, so it’s time to let her go. The unassembled kit for this ship sells for more than $800 and that’s without the paints and supplies needed to construct and finish it. The original kit consisted of more than 7,500 individual parts and takes more than 1,000 hours to complete. A lot of patience, precision, and love went into the making of this ship and to whoever built it this ship would’ve been priceless. I know the builder passed away which is the only reason the ship ended up for sale. From the ship building kit website https://offerup.com/redirect/?o=b2NjcmUuY29t: “The ‘Montañés’ represents the maximum level of perfection achieved by Spanish naval architecture, when Spanish ships of the line were a match for those of any navy in the world. The figurehead of this ship is not the royal lion but a ‘montañes’ (highlander), in gratitude for the financial contribution towards her construction made by the people of the mountains. She was launched in Ferrol on 14th May 1794. It is said that she was an extraordinary vessel, whether sailing close to the wind, running free or with a following wind, and that, more than any other ship, she kept her batteries out of the water. She was engaged in a number of battles, including Trafalgar, where she mounted 76 guns and 4 carronades with mortars, located on her quarter deck. On 6th March 1810, in a violent storm, she sank off the Bay of Cadiz.” This large ship measures about 49 inches long and 18.5 inches from side-to-side and she sits about 36 inches tall. See photos for details and feel free to ask for more pics as needed or wanted. We are near 40th St. & Thunderbird Rd. in northeast Phoenix. Asking $700 or best offer for this gorgeous ship. Will sell to the first person with the best offer who can come pick her up. Thanks for looking!
