Description

This antique opium pipe hails from 19th century China and is a rare find for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Made entirely by hand, the piece boasts a unique mix of materials including bovine bone and features a stunning multi-color design. Its origin and age can be traced back to the late 1800s, adding to its value as a true antique. The opium pipe represents a piece of history and culture, and is a must-have for anyone interested in Chinese antiques. “Does not come from any ivory, producing animal or endangered species” The following description comes from a similar opium pipe in the Amsterdam museum: "The most essential is the pipe with the long, bent pipe stem and a water reservoir at the bottom. The other, shorter tube is the pipe bowl, in fact a separate part that has a longer tube downwards, ending under the water level. This two-parted pipe fits into the container that holds on the other half of the tobacco box, mostly cylindrical with a flat lid. In between two small holes hold the utensils, like the tongues and a needle combined with a brush on top. With a string or chain, the whole set can be attached to the belt of the user." **PLEASE NOTE*** I'm not a collector or expert so please see all photos for condition and let me know if you have any questions or need any more photographs. Due to the reason of light and the display, you can see the picture may have a slight color difference problem, this is inevitable, please understand. Please review images to make your judgment on cosmetic condition which I believe is a matter of personal opinion. You will get what you see. Please keep in mind that the majority of the items in my store are used, vintage or antique. I try to list every item accurately and to the best of my ability including any damage that I may find. There may be surface wear, scuffing or minor things to items that would come with normal use so if there is something specific you are concerned about please ask. If you see a mistake or flaw in my listing PLEASE let me know! I try to research each item and now and then I get it wrong. I welcome input and will make changes when I can verify your input. I have an antique & vintage shop in San Diego close to downtown with a wide range of antiques, furniture, collectibles and other unique items. Open to the public by “appointment” usually starting in the afternoons every day.
