Description
Quadrupeds" by John Hall is a huge dinner service with a different animal in the center of each size and shape. The large border medallions or cartouches frame more animal patterns. Hall copied the vast majority of prints from "A Cabinet of Quadrupeds" (1805) by John Church, although some of the prints are from "The General History of Quadrupeds" (1790) by Thomas Bewick and drawings for Aesop's Fables by Samuel Howitt. The 10 inch plate features a lion ready to spring on his prey. The animals in the four medallions are goats, Shetland ponies, zebras and deer. Early 19th Century. c. 1814-32 Approx. 10"W. Condition: Crazing throughout and crack as shown as well as discoloration. Measures 9.75" in diameter.
