Description

Antique Steward & Patteson Limited Stoneware Ginger Beer Bottle – Norwich & Swaffham, Norfolk, England – "Ranger Beer" 1D This is a genuine early 20th-century British stoneware ginger beer bottle from the historic Steward & Patteson Limited brewery of Norwich and Swaffham, Norfolk. The front features bold black underglaze transfer printing: "STEWARD & PATTESON LIMITED" with decorative arrows Central circular stamp: "BREWED RANGER BEER 1D" (priced at one penny) "NORWICH & SWAFFHAM" at the base These iconic brown salt-glazed stoneware bottles were popular in the UK from the late Victorian era through the 1920s. They were designed to hold carbonated ginger beer under pressure and are highly sought after by bottle collectors, breweriana enthusiasts, and fans of British pub history. Additional details: Classic ginger beer shape with tapered neck and rounded shoulders Height: approximately 7 inches (17–18 cm) tall On the reverse: remnants of an old paper label reading "C. R. Fenton & Co. Beachy Rd. Old Ford" with partial number "142" — indicating later reuse by a London-area bottler or mineral water company (common practice at the time) Bottom and neck show typical manufacturing marks and age-related wear Condition: Good vintage/"dug" condition with crazing, surface scratches, scuffs, small chips/nicks, and wear consistent with 100+ years of age and use. No major cracks or repairs. Please see all photos for exact condition. A wonderful piece of British brewing history from one of Norfolk’s well-known breweries (active until the mid-20th century). Perfect for display in a man cave, bar, kitchen, or collection of antique bottles and stoneware. Would make a great gift for a collector or history buff! Measurements: Approx. 7" tall × 2.75" wide at base Era: Circa 1895–1920s Maker: Likely Stiff & Co.
