Shisa are traditional Ryukyuan cultural artifacts and decorations that are deeply rooted in Okinawan mythology. They are believed to protect people from evil spirits and are commonly placed on rooftops or at the gates of houses and public buildings. The open-mouthed Shisa wards off evil spirits, while the closed-mouthed Shisa keeps good spirits in. The closed-mouth Shisa in this set was broken and repaired.
