Description
Vintage brass and copper Russian samovar- date unknown. Vintage patina and surface wear consistent with age. Spigate intact and turns. 11.5 lbs. 19.5" tall, 14" wide at handles. A Russian samovar is a traditional metal vessel for heating and boiling water for tea, with its name meaning "self-boiler" and its design featuring a central pipe inside for fuel to heat the water. Samovars serve as both a functional device and a cultural symbol of Russian tea-drinking traditions, with the strong tea concentrate, or zavarka, brewed in a teapot placed on top and diluted with the hot water. This samovar was brought to me by my brother from Russia in the 1980's, though it was old when he purchased it. It is for display only, unless cleaned and restored professionally. Similar samovars on eBay and Etsy going for much more. Please click on our website for other items for sale.
