Purchased a 2008 Land Rover for cheap. I knew this car would need a bit of work done before going to see it. I went to check out the car and asked questions. They wouldn't let me take the car to another mechanic shop for a second opinion nor a mobile mechanic. So I asked their mechanic and he said the transmission and engine are good. He showed me some of the codes...now I'm not a mechanic so I don't know what I'm looking at, but he reassured me that the car is good to drive with engine and transmission working fine. I asked the young man in the office if he or someone else could go for a test drive with me, he refused. I asked the mechanic to test drive the car for me just for a peace of mind before I drive it off the lot with a baby in tow. He did it. After purchasing it I went for a second opinion at another mechanic and he said the transmission is no good and would cost $4k-6k to replace. My complaint is that they told me the major problem is that the car jerks when going high speed which I found out on my own driving (at 55mph it starts shaking not jerking). They didn't list the problems, I found some external problems myself while my mechanic found the internal. The young gentleman didn't seem like he wanted to help or even wanted to be there working. He consistently said him and his mechanic were too busy. Some honesty would've been appreciated instead of just trying to get rid of the car.

They replied saying it's driveable and it was sold as is. I didn't argue about buying it as is. My problem was asking questions and being lied to. I asked specific questions because I will have a baby in the car. My mechanic said it is UNSAFE to drive. Maybe that's why he didn't want to go into details when i asked for the codes after offering to give it to me? The car is worth AT MOST $500 and that's being generous not the original $1800. My mechanic says it belongs in the salvage yard.
