In Great condition! This piano falls within the short range for which the shipping ledgers were lost before being digitized by the Smithsonian. Per the foundation for preserving Chickering pianos this Piano was finished in probably February 1851. It is a beautiful piece of history. Most of these pianos are found in museums. See Chickering Foundation for further info. This particular piano is signed in two locations by unknown persons. Per AI on Chickering Piano 1851 An 1851 Chickering square piano had the following features: Casters: Brass casters on four turned and fluted legs Damper pedal: Mounted in the middle of the keyboard on a pedal lyre Compass: 68 keys, FF-c4, with ebony accidentals and ivory naturals Action: English double action with backchecks Stringing: Double strung throughout Case: Made of wood, with alternating dark and light lines Key well: Surrounded by light-colored veneer String plate: Cast string plate in a circular or star design Chickering was the first piano manufacturer in the United States, established in 1823.
