Description

1988 Schwinn Traveler 12 Speed Road Bike with Profile aero bars. I’ve had this bike for nearly 30 years and never ridden it farther than a test ride as it’s too big for me. It’s probably a 23” (58cm). I’m 5’9” and recommend it for someone either taller or with more than a 32” inseam if you choose to ride it. Aside from the aero bars this bike is bone stock down to the tires. Made in USA in Greenville, Mississippi not the Chicago plant. There is someone on CL selling the stock type handlebars if you wish to bring it back to stock. For being a mid-level bike, this has some decent parts on it, particularly the rims and hubs. The indexed (switchable to friction) down tube shifters work and index properly, as do the brakes. The lugged 4130 chromoly frame doesn’t have any dents, though there are some scratches and chips from hanging in the garage for so long. The handlebar wrap needs to be redone and the tires MUST be replaced if you try to ride this. The tubes still hold air but I wouldn’t trust them above 10PSI. Most of the components are Shimano Exage Motion (Biopace 52-40, 170mm cranks) but the 700c rims are really nice Belgium made Allesas with Malliard French hubs and Sachs skewers. The Selle SanMarco seat is there but needs recovering. The Profile aero bars are so out of place, but they do work. Still has the Schwinn Chicago head tube badge, but I think the Chicago plant closed down the year before this was made and it was built in Mississippi . That should place it among the last of the Made in USA Schwinns. I’ve never ridden this farther than down the block in 30 years as it doesn’t fit me, so now let I want it to go to someone who will either ride it (with new tires) or appreciate it. $180 or trade for new school/vintage BMX race stuff. Updated with right year and assembly plant and other random stuff.
