May 24th 1839 Sommerville TN to Indianapolis Letter To Mr. Gilman Master? Talks about writing more often and a pledge of friendship and teaching at a school. "The school was in extremely low condition when I came here. Teachers had not answered the expectation of the trustees or of the community generally." Mentions a two story brick building a little retired from town? (As in distance maybe) but the upper loft is owned by a lodge of the Freemansons. The trustees (of the school) have been trying to purchase it. Talks Cost of school and the Temperature in May being 88 degrees. "I hope this scroll (letter) will not be doomed to follow you around the Alleghanys." Talks of death of 3 friends from college. Mentions you or I could ne next. Be Ready! From W.D.
