Description

Detroit: Calvert Lithographing Company, 1903. Original poster. Color lithograph. 42 x 28 inches. This incredible 1903 advertising poster advertises the Satin Skin Powder and the Satin Skin Cream, both products manufactured by the Albert F. Wood Manufacturing Company. The poster features a woman holding a hand fan which reads 'Don't you want a satin skin?' Illustrations of the product packaging are also featured. Available in 4 tints - Flesh, White, Pink and Brunet, the packaging for Satin Skin Powder reads "It's beneficial to the skin, concealing blemishes and adding a charming fairness." The packaging for the Satin Skin Cream promotes that it is "made with healing herbs, milk of plants, beautifying balsams, and perfuming flowers, - gives, and preserves a satin skin. Nourishes away early wrinkles, keeps hands soft, supple, white." Copyrighted and dated 1903 by Albert F. Wood, MFR., The Satin Toilet Specialties, Detroit, Mich. The poster in good condition and lined with canvas. Minor foxing. The Albert F. Wood Manufacturing Company was active from circa 1885 to 1910 and were manufacturers and sellers of cosmetic products such as soaps, perfumes, creams, powders, etc. This is a rare poster and a beautiful example of early American advertising.
