Description

*1972 BMW 3.0CSi*In the collector car world, the thing that separates a good car from a great car is the historical provenance. Be it race history, a famous owner or screen time in a major motion picture, a car with a good story is always more coveted than one without. This 1972 BMW 3.0CSi is a stunning car to look at and has a great story behind it as it was one of the featured props in the 2019 blockbuster film "Knives Out". Driven by Chris Evans in the movie, the car has a surprising amount of screen time with a few driving sequences and plenty of shots of the vehicle's exterior throughout the film.To many, the 3.0CSi is regarded as the most beautiful BMW coupe to ever leave the factory. Powered by a 3.0 liter inline-6, the CSi denotes the addition of a Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection system. This helps the CSi produce 200 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque while proving both more efficient and reliable than the previous carbureted models. The BMW 3.0 coupe was designed as a luxurious grand touring car with 2+2 seating, that was happy cruising at speed for hours on end while cocooning the occupants in a quiet, comfortable cabin. The striking shape of this car could never be replicated today with its fishbowl-like greenhouse and pillarless side windows offering stunning visibility and makes the roof almost look like it is floating above the car. This example was originally an Italian market car and sold to its first owner in Milan. Because of this, the car was not saddled with the design changes that were forced on the 3.0CSis destined for the United States and is a much more desirable car for it. The svelte European bumpers look stunning as do the European spec headlights with their flat glass enclosures, as opposed to the convex, sealed beam units found on the American cars. Finished in the classic BMW color of Polaris Silver, this car was the recipient of a sympathetic restoration in the early 2000s that included a full respray and mechanical reconditioning. The blue velour interior is a unique option and remains original to the car, although it is showing some minor signs of wear, it still looks great and is graced with the essential vintage BMW upgrade of a wood rimmed Nardi steering wheel. In light of this car's upscale positioning at the time, it was equipped from the factory with numerous convenience features that were rather uncommon for the era. Originally fitted with air conditioning, this car was converted to run R134 in 2005 and still blows ice cold. All four windows are power operated and have had their mechanisms refurbished so they move up and down smoothly. The power steering system has been completely rebuilt with a new pump and steers the car smoothly and is a dream to drive down the road in- it tracks straight but when going into turns, the steering weights up pleasantly and feels sporty but still luxurious.Finding a great, European specification 3.0CSi is not an easy task these days- for decades they weren't particularly desirable and have always been susceptible to rust, which gave them a remarkably high rate of attrition. The restoration of a 3.0CSi can get quite expensive and take years whereas this example has already had all of the heavy lifting completed so you can focus on using and enjoying the car. This BMW is a stunning car and has been exceptionally well cared for over the years and thanks to its special place in film history, would be a great addition to any collection.Watch a Walkaround Video Here...*Additional Information* * Restoration Photos on File * Copy of "Knives Out" Rental Agreement * Photo-Copied Owner's Handbook * Service RecordsFor more information on this 1972 BMW 3.0CSi or any of our 100+ High-Performance, Exotic and Special Interest cars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or always feel free to drop by our 40,000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
