Description
Vintage, original Title Lobby Card (LC) for 1951 RKO marriage drama “Payment on Demand” starring Bette Davis & Barry Sullivan; 1932 Warner Bros. publicity still photo (8” x 10”) of Bette Davis for “So Big”; & 1934 RKO publicity still photo (8” x 10.25”) of Bette Davis for “of Human Bondage”. ‘Payment on Demand’ Title Lobby Card (LC) is unrestored & in very fine to near mint condition from the original release of the 1951 film “Payment on Demand”. The LC features a fantastic image of legendary film star Bette Davis & was displayed in movie theaters. It has very minor wear & tear. Otherwise this LC is in absolutely terrific condition & displays extremely well. This original 1932 Warner Bros. publicity still photo (8” x 10”) of an early career Bette Davis for Pre-Code movie “So Big” is in very fine to near mint condition. Since this is an original, 90 year old vintage still photo, it has some very minor wear and tear but is in excellent condition & displays beautifully. It really is a striking, stylish image of Ms.Davis modeling a smart sportswear ensemble of brown wool with a plaid skirt. Please note that the back of the photo contains an original attached note from the Warner Bros. publicist’s office providing details about film & outfit worn by Davis. It also included the then-address of the studio. “So Big” was a starring vehicle for Barbara Stanwyck that featured Bette in a supporting role. The “Of Human Bondage” original 1934 photo still featuring Bette in the part that made her a star & Leslie Howard is in very fine condition. Upon the film’s release, Davis was widely heralded as having given one of the best performances of all time & she was expected to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. However, she was snubbed in part because her home studio Warner Bros. did not want her nominated for a film made by a rival studio. Please see images. Bette Davis was a legendary movie star and two-time Academy Award-winning actress from the 1930s to the 1980s. Regarded as one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history, she was noted for her willingness to play unsympathetic, sardonic characters and was known for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films and occasional comedies, although her greatest successes were her roles in Romantic dramas. She was Warner Bros. leading female star in the 1930s, and she continued as a major star through the 1940s, and into 1950 when Davis had one of her greatest triumphs, “All About Eve” where she was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. Later in her career, Bette starred in “What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?” (nominated again for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and “Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte” in the 1960s. Bette Davis was nominated 10 times for the Academy Award Best Actress award in her career.
