Description
This is a Series 1953-B $2 United States Note, often called a "Red Seal" note due to its distinctive treasury seal and serial numbers. Key Characteristics: Unlike modern green-seal Federal Reserve notes, this was issued directly by the U.S. Treasury. Signatures: This "B" series was signed by Treasurer Elizabeth Rudel Smith and Secretary of the Treasury C. Douglas Dillon. Design: The front features Thomas Jefferson, and the back shows his estate, Monticello. Notable Omission: This note was printed before the motto "In God We Trust" was added to paper currency in 1957; the motto only began appearing on $2 bills starting with the 1963 series.
