Description
A finely crafted horseshoe-back armchair (quanyi, 圈椅) in hardwood, dating to the late Qing dynasty or early Republic period (circa 1880–1930). This elegant form, rooted in the Ming dynasty tradition, features a continuous rounded crest rail flowing seamlessly into the armrests, supported by vertical stiles. The rectangular back splat is decorated with a pierced carved medallion of floral scrollwork with central roundel. The seat panel is framed within a molded edge, resting over an apron carved with floral and geometric motifs, supported by square-section legs joined with stretchers. • Origin: China • Era: Late Qing / Early Republic (c. 1880–1930)
