No return or refund Kalanchoe daigremontiana, also known as the mother of thousands, alligator plant, or Mexican hat plant, is a succulent plant native to Madagascar. It's a member of the Crassulaceae family. The mother of thousands gets its name from its ability to produce plantlets along the edges of its leaves. These plantlets are miniature versions of the plant, complete with their own roots. They can detach from the parent leaf and grow into new plants. caring for a mother of thousands plant: Light: Place in a bright spot with indirect sunlight, like an east- or south-facing window. Avoid direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon. Water: Water when the top inch of soil is dry, which is usually every 10–14 days. Water less in the winter when the plant is dormant. Overwatering can cause root rot. Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, like a succulent mix with perlite. You can also add a layer of gravel or clay shards to the bottom of the pot for drainage. Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), you can fertilize with a diluted, balanced fertilizer once a month. Pruning: Remove dead or dying leaves as needed. Temperature: Keep the plant in a room temperature area that's at least 60°F. Pests: Watch for mealybugs, aphids, or spider mites. Toxicity: The plant's milky sap is toxic and can cause contact dermatitis. Wear gloves and eye protection when handling the plant. Invasive: Mother of thousands can spread quickly and is considered invasive in some areas. Keep the plant in a pot or remove any that grow outside of its intended location.
