Description

This vintage original poster for the 1946 MGM classic film noir “The Postman Always Rings Twice” starring femme fatale Lana Turner, John Garfield, Cecil Kellaway & Hume Cronyn. It was a big box office hit. The film spins a sultry web of mystery with a gripping adaptation of a classic noir tale. This original, vintage & authentic One Sheet (27" X 41") poster with for the film noir classic “Postman Always Rings Twice” was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A restorer addressed fold separations & small tears, minor chips in the borders & folds, & general wear & tear. In addition, borders were partially airbrushed. Although there are still some faint creases & specks of missing color, this iconic film poster that is enormously popular among collectors now displays very well. The film, considered a classic example of film noir, showcases the distinctive features of the genre: the femme fatale, an alienated & tragic antihero figure & a mutual plot against the female's husband. The story is narrated by the antihero in the form of a voiceover recollection of events past. The aesthetic quality of the film creates an atmosphere of disorientation, rejection of traditional morality & overall pessimistic tone. Turner said this was a favorite role of hers. James M. Cain, who wrote the novel the film was based on, felt that she was the perfect choice for Cora. Lana succeeds marvelously from the first glimpse of her standing in the doorway in her white pumps, as the camera travels up her tanned legs, she becomes a character so enticingly beautiful & insidiously evil that the audience is riveted.
