Description
Near-complete ukiyo-e woodblock print series from Kanadehon Chūshingura (Treasury of Loyal Retainers), attributed to Hasegawa Sadanobu I, Õsaka school, circa 1830s–1840s. Includes Acts I–X and XII; missing only Acts III and XI which were recently sold. The series follows the famed Kanadehon Chūshingura ("The 47 Rōnin") narrative through scenes of loyalty, intrigue, confrontation, and revenge, rendered in the theatrical and expressive kamigata-e style associated with Ōsaka printmaking. The story is a lesson on loyalty, obligation and consequence. It has nothing to do with the modern adaptation which was made for Hollywood and the fantasy and action driven film market. Printed on handmade washi using traditional polychrome woodblock techniques. Condition consistent with age, including foxing, fading, losses, trimming, and wear throughout. Framed for display; offered primarily as decorative historical works and recommended for professional conservation and archival reframing. Update: 8 Acts remaining from this series.
