Mid-Century Jaeger-LeCoultre mantel clock

A Mid-Century Jaeger-LeCoultre mantel clock in a Lucite case with inset brass chinoiserie decoration featuring a young girl amongst the lily pads with an overhanging branch above . Set over a gilded Brass stepped base. Eight day movement by Jaeger-LeCoultre with baton numerals and original gilded hands. Dimensions: H 16cm W 21cm D 4.5cm In 1903, Paris based watchmaker Edmond Jaeger set a challenge for Swiss manufacturers to develop and produce ultra-thin movements that he himself had invented. Jacques-David LeCoultre, Antoines grandson, now responsible for production at LeCoultre & Cie, accepted the challenge and started developing the exciting new ultra-thin time pieces. French Jeweller Cartier signed a contract that same year with Jaeger meaning all Jaeger movements be exclusive to Cartier for a period of 15 years, the movements being made by LeCoultre. The Collaboration between Jaeger and LeCoultre led to the company being officially renamed Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937, of which the name remains, and stands as a pioneer of time piece development and production.
