Description
We’re re-landscaping our front yard and, unfortunately, only have space for 4 of our 7 beautiful Otto Luyken English Laurels. These are healthy, happy, established 11-year-old compact evergreen shrubs that have been a part of our landscape for years. ✨ About the shrubs: ● Evergreen and compact — great for hedges, borders, or foundation planting ● Healthy and well-established ● Every June, after their spring bloom, we prune them back. They reliably grow back beautifully each year. ● Recently dug up on Friday, 8/14, so they’re ready for a new home and should be replanted ASAP. ● We’d love to see these mature shrubs continue thriving rather than go to waste! 💰 Price: ● 1 shrub: $30 ● 2 shrubs: $50 ● Rightmost shrub: FREE — this one may not survive the transplant, so please take it only if you’re willing to give it some extra TLC and do your best to help it establish. ❤️ 📍 Pick-up: Renton Highlands, 98056 If you’re looking for an instant, established evergreen shrub without waiting years for it to grow, these could be a great option! Please message me if interested. First come, first served. 🌱 More info: The Otto Luyken English Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus 'Otto Luyken') is a highly popular dwarf cultivar of the cherry laurel, prized by landscapers for its formal, polished aesthetic and Pacific Northwest hardiness. Unlike the massive, tree-like standard English Laurel, this variety features a low, spreading, and dense growth habit. It is characterized by deep, glossy, dark green leaves that grow upward along the stems, providing year-round structure and lush visual barriers. In the spring, it produces fragrant, creamy-white bottlebrush-like flower spikes that contrast beautifully with the dark foliage, which are later followed by small, dark purple-black berries that local birds enjoy. It thrives in urban environments, handles heavy pruning well, and adapts to a variety of light conditions from full sun to deep shade, making it a staple for contemporary foundation plantings and modern privacy borders. Mature Size: Typically 3–4 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide (can reach 6–10 feet unpruned) Growth Rate: Moderate; adds about 1–2 feet of growth per year until mature Light & Soil: Thrives in full sun to full shade; prefers moist, well-drained soils but is drought-tolerant once established Landscape Uses & Care Insights * Year-Round Privacy: Provides a dense, lush screen without growing completely out of control, making it perfect for lining fences or dividing sections of a yard without blocking light. * Pruning: To keep it looking neat and within its compact 3–4 foot height, give it a light shaping pruning after the spring flowers fade. It responds incredibly well to heavy shearing. * Disease & Toxicity: It is generally very low maintenance and resistant to deer, but it does require good soil drainage to avoid root rot. Note: All parts of the laurel, including its berries, are toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
