For 2005 Hyperlite redesigned one of their most popular series of all time. The new Era series comes with 16 Fret rails. These rails are a variation of a step down rail and a flow thru rail. The fret rails do not sit as deep in the water as a step down rail. They are not as grippy as a flow thru rail. A fret rail was designed to be fast out of the hull. The new Era series has a lot of the same characteristics as last years. It is now clearly a quicker board overall. Thru a turn and towards the wake. The board has more exaggerated bottom channels as well. In the process, Hyperlite developed a totally new style of traction in a rail, and molded-in fins producing our fastest 3-stage rockered series. Fret Rail Design: Over the years Hyperlite has created the first step down rail and flow thru rail. Now, they bring the latest in speed and edge transfers. These 16 angled channels do not sit as deep in the water as some of their other designs. Specifically shaped angled contours allow a rider to have a fast board sitting higher on the water when traveling in a straight line, yet comes out of the hole harder. Once a rider comes thru a turn, the board sets a harder edge than a traditional profile. Erik wanted a board with similar characteristics to last year's, but with quicker characteristics overall.
