Description
Magnificent Japanese Imari Arita charger, Meiji Period (1(contact info removed)), with an attractive foliate rim and wide border. Richly decorated with an underglaze of cobalt blue and an overglaze of rust-red, green and soft blue. A central roundel, featuring whorls and geometrical shapes, is surrounded by alternating panels of Japanese symbols, florals, birds in flight and cartouches. High quality porcelain. Hand painted. This charger is large with a diameter of 15” and a height of 2 1/2”. The underside of the bowl has further decorations of rust-red and cobalt blue. Serves both aesthetic and practical purposes. It is truly a stunning piece. Despite its age, this shallow bowl is in excellent condition. Colors are robust and beautiful. One panel (please see photo) has two very small chips. Both are no larger than 1/4”. Being that the design is so plentiful, these areas are barely noticeable. No crazing, cracks, scratches or repairs. This piece would be a wonderful addition to any antique or Asian collection. Cash only. Pickup in New Hyde Park, Nassau County, Long Island, New York.
