Description

This exquisite piece is a stunning example of mid-century Japanese art pottery, masterfully crafted to capture the weight and soul of traditional bronze. The vase features a fascinating "trompe l'oeil" finish, utilizing a deep, charcoal-textured glaze that mimics patinated metal, providing a moody and sophisticated backdrop for the hand-painted scene. Perched gracefully upon a budding camellia branch is a Daurian Redstart, known in Japan as the Joubitaki, rendered with delicate gold-leaf detailing that catches the light beautifully. As a symbol of the transition into spring, the bird’s vibrant orange breast offers a striking contrast against the dark, stone-like body of the vessel. Flip it over and you’ll find the classic "Made in Japan" mark impressed into the clay. It’s a wonderful example of the Kacho-ga tradition literally meaning: "flower and bird painting" and it feels like a small tribute to that heritage. For anyone who loves how nature is captured in craft, it’s a really special find. Great Vintage Condition, overall it is in exquisite condition! L X W X H 10" x 5" x 5" Opening is roughly 3" x 3"
