Description

This is a stunning, factory-matched two-piece antique French porcelain serving set from the celebrated studios of Jean Pouyat in Limoges, France. This exquisite set dates to the early 1900s (circa 1(contact info removed)) and features a brilliant white porcelain body dramatically accented with heavy, ornate gold gilt trim along the scalloped edges, handles, and finial handle. The set includes: 1. Large Covered Soup Tureen: Measures approximately 14" inches long (handle-to-handle) x 8" inches wide x 4.5" inches tall. Features beautifully molded, ornate gilded handles and a decorative ribbon/leaf style lid finial. 2. Large Scalloped Shell Serving Dish: Measures approximately 11.5" inches long x 8" inches wide. Features a deeply molded, elegant shell motif with high-relief gold leaf details blossoming from the base handle. Authenticity & Marks: - The Large Covered Tureen is fully backstamped on the base with the green underglaze factory mark ("J.P." over "L." over "FRANCE") and the red overglaze decorating studio circle stamp ("J. POUYAT LIMOGES"). - The matching Shell Platter is unmarked on the reverse, which is standard for secondary accent pieces in early 20th-century Limoges sets. It is a perfect structural, porcelain-glaze, and gold-gilt match to the tureen, confirming they belong to the same original factory service. Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. The white glaze is bright and smooth, and the gold gilding remains exceptionally vibrant with only minimal, age-appropriate storage wear. This breathtaking set represents the pinnacle of Edwardian-era luxury dining and would make a magnificent centerpiece for holiday gatherings or a premier addition to an antique Limoges porcelain collection.
