Description

This 1(contact info removed) Galvano Bronze pair is not only one of their finest but also one of their rarest and lesser seen sets. These I have not found in any Antique Bookend reference guide, but they are easily identifiable. One will find that these were made using the same method used by only a few Art Deco foundries wby an elaborate mold was hung in solution while the metal was allowed to form over it. This metal generally was bronze or copper, but t were some exclusive pieces that had gold or silver, which were one of a kind. The bookends hung on metal wicks, which can still be seen on the undersides of the pieces. This pair depicts Egyptian King & Queen Pharaohs in a form designed to resemble the ancient ruins of those famous colossal monuments and statues that were the craze during the surge in all things Egyptian and exotic - the Egyptian Revival. The King and Queen are shown sitting side by side on a large throne and wearing substantial headpieces. You will find this pair to be in good condition, especially taking its age into account. Both are high quality, first rate pieces, with deep dark-toned bronze bodies that are glossy and show the underlying copper metal peeking through. The only flaw to mention is a shallow dent on the edge of one piece and two minor ones across a king's leg. Aside from that, these are in fact flawless. One would be hard pressed to find a pair in better condition. These impressive pieces measure 7 ¼" Tall, 3" Long, and 3" Wide, and the pair weighs 5 pounds. Pick up only Zelle or cash please
