Description

Plant is about 1-2 ft tall. Last photos show actual or similar plants Monstera Thai Constellation is one of the most eye-catching houseplants around thanks to its large (they can grow more than 3 feet long!) variegated leaves. Its slow growth (its creamy-white variegation makes it a slower grower because the leaves have less chlorophyll) has made it hard to find (and thus very expensive) in the past. As a young plant, Thai Constellation Monstera is a statement plant for bright desks and tabletops. As it grows, each leaf should get progressively larger (and more fenestrated, meaning it has more slits and windows) until it's floor-plant-size. If you give it good care, Thai Constellation can grow more than 6 feet tall and wide indoors over time. Thai Constellation is distinct from a couple of other variegated Monstera in that its variegation is stable. Monstera deliciosa Albo-Variegata has leaves marked with white, but it is notoriously unstable, often producing shoots that lose variegation entirely or have no chlorophyll. Monstera deliciosa Aurea-Variegata is similar, but with golden-yellow variegation. Monsteras appreciate a warm, humid environment, a good amount of water and gentle sunlight. Place your Monstera where it can receive medium to bright indirect light. While it is tolerant of lower light conditions, you may notice leggy growth as a result, so a spot where it will receive bright indirect light a few feet removed from a southern, western, or eastern facing window is ideal. A species of flowering plant native to southern Mexico and Panama, Monstera deliciosa is a hardy and easy to care for plant known by many names, but most commonly the “Swiss cheese plant” due the unique development of ridges and holes on its more mature leaves, known as fenestrations. The “deliciosa” part of the plant’s name comes from the pineapple-like fruit it bears in its natural habitat! Monstera deliciosa is a fruit that should come with an instruction manual. Unripe fruits are chock full of oxalic acid, a substance that is used to bleach wood and clean rust off metal. Those who make the mistake of biting into an unripe monstera experience severe throat and skin irritation. However, when ripe, this monster of a fruit is indeed delicious. The scientific name literally means “delicious monster,” an apt description given the fruit’s tasty yet dangerous potential. But the genus Monstera actually gets its name from the plant’s abnormal-looking leaves, which are very large with a strange network of holes. For this reason, it’s earned the nickname “Swiss cheese plant.” Its interesting appearance makes members of this genus a popular ornamental plant, though not all species have edible fruit. When fully ripe, the monstera offers a wonderful combination of strong tropical flavors like pineapple, coconut, and banana. In its native countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, and Costa Rica, it is typically eaten on its own or prepared into jams. Chefs also whip up monstera-based desserts, either pairing the fruit with a dash of light cream or incorporating it into fruit cups or ice cream. Fertilizer that I include as an option is an excellent choice for professional growers or nurseries if you grow plant in a pot. I personally use it for all my plants. It has polymer coating to allow slow release during 8-9 months evenly. You don't have to worry about repotting the plant for about 1 year or worry about burning plant with your regular over the counter fertilizer. You need about 3-4oz per 3 gal pot or 4-5oz per 5 gal pot.
