Description
One of the few seasons in the 1950's that the New York Yankees did not win the World Series championship, the year 1954 was nonetheless a successful one with 103 wins. Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford turned in impressive seasons yet again, and surprising first year hurler Bob Grim became the first rookie to win twenty games. This typed signed letter is on Yankees letterhead and was written by Casey Stengel to a young man in a children's hospital. Wishing him well and telling him they would win a few games just for him, Stengel then had the team sign the letter. Signatures include Mantle, Enos Slaughter, Allie Reynolds, Yogi Berra, Moose Skowron, Bill Dickey, Whitey Ford and Ed Lopat, among others. The twenty-four signatures average 7-8/10, while the letter itself exhibits two fold lines and a few minor creases. The original mailing envelope is also included and shows heavy wear. The piece is framed to overall dimensions of 14x22.5." Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
