Description
The Lord is my Rock is commonly associated with this print. It is one in a series done by French photographer Jean Guichard. You can see the Lighthouse of "la Jument" and the guard Theodore Malgorne, in the storm. Erected on a stone called la Jument, "Ar-Gazec" in breton. Near the island of Ouessant, Sea of Iroise, west Brittan. Check it out on Guichard’s website from the wave swell, to the lighthouse guard stepping out for a split second, before the wave breaks completely wrapping the lighthouse. As the story goes, this was a fierce storm and the night before it swamped the lighthouse, washing everything including the fridge out the door to sea. The lighthouse keeper took refuge in the very top of the light house. When he heard the helicopter coming he thought it was his rescue and stepped out when the photographer took his picture. He immediately stepped back in closing the door securely as the wave broke around the lighthouse.
