Description
Official emblem of the 100th Year of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide In anticipation of the milestone year of 2015, the Republic of Armenia issued the illustration at left as the official emblem of the worldwide observance of the centennial year of the Armenian Genocide. A flower called Անմոռուկ / Anmoruk / Anmorook (Forget-Me-Not / Незабудка) has been chosen as the symbol of100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. It should connect our present with our future and forget-me-not flower shaped symbol was chosen knowingly. Անմոռուկ / Anmoruk / Anmorook / Forget-Me-Not / Незабудка, in many languages it expresses the same meaning “remembrance”. And that is the main message of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Petals of the flower symbolize those five continents where Armenians have found refuge escaping from the genocide. They have spread throughout the world, becoming the Armenian diaspora. Today people living in these continents condemn the genocide and for each of them is acceptable the following slogan “I remember and Demand”. Flower has four main color components: dark purple, light purple, yellow and black. Each of them has its certain meaning. Black color symbolizes the horrors of the genocide and memory of the genocide (the past). Inner radial light purple symbolizes the participation in the idea (the present). As a dominant color of the symbol has been suggested the dark purple as it is widely spread in the elements of the clothes of Armenian Church’s priests (the future). Yellow depicts the hopeful sunlight for living and creating. Հիշում եմ և պահանջում / I Remember and Demand THE PAST: The black center represents the suffering of 1915, and the dark aftermath of the Armenian Genocide. THE PRESENT: The light purple petals represents the unity of Armenian communities across the world - all od whom stand together in this 100th years of remembrance. THE FUTURE: The five petals represent the five continents where survivors of the Armenian Genocide found a new home. The dark purple color is meant to recall the priestly vestments of the Armenian Church - which has been, is, and will remain at the heart of the Armenian Christian identity. ETERNITY: The twelve trapezoids represent the twelve pillars of the Dzidzernagapert Armenian Genocide memorial in Yerevan, Armenia. The yellow color represents light, creativity, and hope.
