Century Chin Hua Buffet by Raymond Sobota – Burl Wood, Black Lacquer & Brass

Vintage Century Furniture Chin Hua Collection buffet/sideboard, designed by Raymond K. Sobota. A striking example of Century's Asian Modern/Chinoiserie design, combining richly figured burl veneers with dark black lacquer framing and original brass hardware. This beautiful statement piece has been well cared for. It has three dovetailed drawers across the top and a spacious lower cabinet with a full-width fixed shelf. The large cabinet compartment provides excellent storage for serving pieces, dishes, linens, barware or media. The top and sides of the buffet feature beautifully figured wood center panels framed in black lacquer. The three drawer fronts and four cabinet doors are especially impressive, with highly figured book-matched burl veneers (likely white ash burl) and Asian-inspired brass hardware. Very good vintage condition. Structurally solid, drawers operate smoothly, doors align and function properly, and the original brass hardware is complete. The original finish has been carefully cleaned and refreshed while preserving its vintage character. The top presents beautifully, with only minor age-appropriate surface wear. Cabinet interiors are clean and in very good condition. Century Furniture's brass plaque is present inside the upper left drawer. Dimensions: 62"W × 18.5"D × 31.5"H A substantial, highly decorative piece that works beautifully as a dining-room buffet or server, living-room credenza, entry console, bar cabinet, or media/storage cabinet. The last photo is ai-generated to show the piece in a home environment (rather than in my driveway:).
