Vtg Ampex AG600 Tape Machine Preamp Fully Working Transport Partially Plz Read!!

Description

Hello and thanks for looking! Here I have for sale a still in great shape Ampex mono solid state tape recorder in case. The unit has had it's preamp section fully gone through so it works and can be used as a standalone mic preamp that sounds great. It can be removed from the case or left in to do so. No actual reels are included and the case is original with minimal ware. The preamp includes a famous ampex mic socket module....which gives it the great sound it has. It has the original three prong power cable with it as well. While the rewind and fast forward functions DO work on this unit...I cannot get it to play. Meaning, in play mode the take up reel does not move. It may be a simple fix...may not...no clue. So to use this as an actual tape machine, it will need some work likely....unless I'm just doing something wrong. Maybe it needs a belt? No clue. Has 1/4 inch outputs....XLR inputs. It's not needed to work, but I advise using a direct box at the 1/4 inch output for best performance. This is NOT included, but are a cheap way to make this pre really shine...a down and dirty way to add pseudo "transformer" output. While unit is mono, it can take two mics at input and bounce down to one output. To do that, however, you'll need to buy a non included socketed mic module. It definitely works as a audio preamp and passes audio...and fast forward and rewind works...no other promises are made! These vintage preamps are highly sought-after secret weapons among recording engineers. They are known for delivering rich tone that enhances guitar, vocals, keyboards, and, frankly just about anything. These old preamps have become pretty difficult to find in working order, and recording engineers have discovered just what a magical sound they can bring to a session.
