Description
RARE! This antique oak office or desk chair, often referred to as a "banker's chair" or "lawyer's chair" is consistent with the American Arts and Crafts movement, which is also known as Mission style, popular from the late 19th century through the 1920s. Key Characteristics: * Material: It is made of oak, with a distinctive grain pattern that is often referred to as quartersawn or "tiger oak," a type of wood cut that reveals a distinctive straight grain with shimmering flecks or "tiger stripes". * Design: The chair features solid, straight lines and a simple, functional design with minimal ornamentation, which are hallmarks of the Mission and Arts and Crafts styles. The seat is gently carved for the body. * Construction: Many examples from this period were made by companies like B.L. Marble Chair Co., Sikes Company, or Johnson Chair Company. Very good condition. You will see that some of the wood does not line up. It’s solid to sit on, but has some wobble if you are looking to make it wobble.
