Antique World War 1 Wood Browning WW1 Ammunition Box WW I Vtg WW II Ammo Case 2 This is an original U.S. Browning M1917 & M1917A1 water-cooled machine gun ammunition box. As originally constructed, these had a hinged lid with inset leather carry handle and spring-loaded closing/locking latch. This ammo box unfortunately has lost the leather handle over the decades since it was made. All original condition.  Never refinished.  The patina and wood grain are gracefully and beautifully aged.  The latch works and opens and closes well.  Two small pieces of wood, at the corners behind the hinge are loose, but intact. There is missing wood on the front slanted area. Commensurate with age, the cartridge box has overall antique shelf-wear, scratches, dents, stains, and vintage scent.  Please see all photos for complete description. These were originally produced in plain wood finish as this item.  The box design has two machined slots and slanted front corner for mounting directly to the tripod mount.
