Additional images

Description

The Morgan dollar is a coin with a face value of one US dollar minted from 1878 to 1904, and later in 1921 and as a commemorative in 2021. It was the first silver dollar minted since the approval of the Currency Act of 1873 , which ended the free minting of silver and the production of the previous design, the Seated Liberty dollar. The coin is named after its designer, United States Mint assistant engraver George T. Morgan. The obverse shows a portrait in profile representing Liberty, while the reverse shows an eagle with outstretched wings. The mint mark, if present, appears on the reverse above the "o" in "dollar."
