Description

This was Yanagisawa's first pro-level tenor saxophone, heavily based on the Selmer Mark VI. This particular example is from 1989, based on the serial number. Arguably the best saxophone being made anywhere in the world at the time of its creation. Japanese-handcrafted skill makes this a strong rival to anything from Selmer or Yamaha. The T880 has ribbed construction, meaning that several posts are manufactured on each plate, and the plates are soldered to the sax body. This makes for a very robust construction, and also gives the sax a more focused sound than a 'separate post' construction would. This is a feature copied from the Selmer Mark VI and used by other high-line models as well, and T880s are well-known to sound very similar to Mk VIs, except the T880 has friendlier key placements and better intonation. The epoxy lacquer also holds up better than the nitrocellulose-based stuff that a lot of older saxes have. This sax has very slight lacquer wear (see pics), but is in excellent condition overall for a horn of this vintage. No dents, no signs of damage. The pictures speak for themselves. I had it checked out by Chris Moller at Agave Music after buying it from the original owner through Sax Alley in Colorado, and he gave it an excellent bill of health, good pad fitment with no issues, and the cork is in great shape. Case looks to be of the same vintage and is so-so cosmetically, but does the job; not sure if it's the original case or not. My daughter used this for her concert sax in high school band (used a Yamaha YTS-26 for marching band, which will also be for sale)...she's expressed a desire to move to a different instrument, so figured it's time for someone else to enjoy this beauty. No trades and no payment plans, please. Happy to provide more pictures if desired. Thanks for looking!
