About Borchalus The Borchalu group is comprised of the villages of Khumajin, Kumbazan, Simavor, and Melajird. They make some of the best rug & carpet products of the Hamadan region. Their designs are balanced, symmetrical, and exhibit a sense of flow among their flower sprays. Borchalu colors are light and harmonious, although the colors are often strong and harsh when first produced, until they have a chance to age and soften. Borchalu reds are distinctive and beautiful, often called “light and clear”. Borchalu “grounds” are mostly red, but also can be found in creams and dark blues. They are single-wefted, with a fine weave, and their pile is thick. They come in a range of sizes, including dozars and carpet sizes, and occasionally other sizes. Borchalus make extensive use of the “herati” patterns in their design. Borchalu weaving is quite similar to Sarouks, other than being single-wefted. Borchalu rugs use the Persian knot, also like the Sarouk weavers.
