Description

This decorative plate features a traditional Chinese garden scene with raised three-dimensional figures of women in traditional dress, set against a pavilion backdrop. The piece combines painted elements with applied relief figures, a technique popular in mid-20th century Asian decorative arts for export markets. Such decorative plates were particularly popular during the 1950s-1970s when Asian-inspired decor became fashionable in Western homes. Collectors of Asian decorative arts and vintage chinoiserie particularly value these pieces for their ornamental appeal and as representative examples of the post-war export market that brought stylized Asian aesthetics to Western interiors. The condition is good. Some dings and scratches where the lacquer has weared off, and just usual wear and tear from age. It is still so beautiful to look at and is highly collectible because of its rarity.
