Description

1979 Mercedes Benz 300TD DIESEL wagon. China Blue on Blue MB-Tex (vinyl) interior. Originally a non-turbo example, I bought this from a friend who rescued it and swapped in an OM617 turbo diesel motor. He’s a well known W123 guru and did some tuning, it’s quick for what it is. Runs, drives, shifts and stops well. I’ve had this car for almost 6 years and taken it across Death Valley in the summer and on 1000 mile plus trips and it’s never let me down. Exterior definitely has patina, paint is mostly original but has been repainted in areas. Chips, scratches, fading and some surface rust bubbling through here and there. It is an original California car, the worst of the rust was in the floors (from sitting for years before my acquisition) and has been professionally repaired by cutting, welding and re-applying undercoating. It is no show car but presents well and still looks awesome. Interior is very nice, over the years I’ve replaced many bits and pieces. Near perfect original basket weave seats that would have been correct to this interior swapped in. Door panels and carpets very nice, dash is cracked under dash mat. All of the windows, lights, radio work. Heat and defrost work, AC was not reinstalled after the engine swap so it’s a blank slate for whatever direction you want to go. Problematic climate servo is removed and bypassed. Nice Becker Europa with bluetooth sounds great. Window rails have been removed and replaced with powedercoated pieces so they all go up and down smoothly. Near new windshield, no chips or cracks. Front door seals, check straps, hatch struts all replaced. A lot of small details that get neglected on these cars have been addressed. Mechanically this is a very solid and reliable car. Work over the past few years includes new radiator and coolant reservoir, reman Bosch alternator, just replaced SLS pump (system works as it should, no leaks or sagging). Front brakes and rotors within past year, rear axle shafts, tires are good all around with maybe 5-7k miles. Yes it drips some oil but not a concerning amount, smokes a bit when cold and could use guide rod mounts (clunking from front suspension). I’ve had 10 diesels over the years, this is a good one. Clean title in my name, registration expires this month. Willing to consider reasonable offers, in person after you’ve seen the car. Had the opportunity to buy a rare euro wagon and no space so this one has to go.
