Johan Paul Bjurman (b.1947) Still Life “Old Singer And Antiques” matted and framed fine wall art. Artist Johan Bjurman “Painting as a means to understanding more fully the world around us. Johan Bjurman has been involved in the arts through outdoor advertising as a pictorial painter, the film industry as a scenic painter, designing and painting large scale murals, and historic restoration. Projects of note include trompe l'oeil lunettes for the Philadelphia Academy of Music, conservation and skyscapes for the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, NY, and restoration of the facade of the Fleur de Lis building of the Providence Art Club in Providence, RI. In addition to these commercial projects, Johan has been a fine arts plein air painter as well. Now retired from the commercial endeavors, he is currently turning his attention to his plein air landscape painting and studio still life. Johan's primary interest is in working from life for a better understanding of light, space, and the energies of the surrounding environment. Seeking to refine the craft and define a truer identity in painting is his life goal. In recent years, Johan has divided his time between painting New England landscapes, particularly around Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, painting the vistas and wildlife of the Florida Sun Coast where he currently resides, and painting still life often from found objects. He has been recognized for high achievement by several organizations including the RI Council on the Arts and the RI Historical Society. He recently was awarded first place in the First Annual Cowboy Art Exhibit in Arcadia, Florida. The Lightchasers Plein Air Painters, the Visual Arts Center of Punta Gorda, the DeSoto Arts Council, and the Englewood Art Center have all recognized his work with awards. Johan is a member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA), the Copley Society of Boston, the Englewood Art Center of the Ringling College of Art and Design where he is a painting instructor. He also teaches plein air painting at the Boca Grande Art Center. His work is part of the permanent collections of Providence Public Library, Greenville, RI Public Library, Arcadia, FL Public Library, Amica Insurance, and the Westin Hotel, Providence, RI. “ Please review all photos as they are part of the description.
