Description

Black and white jar exquisitely painted with black fine line and geometric design on white slip. The pot is thin walled and the form is symmetric. Hand-Coiled by Marietta Patricio Juanico, of Acoma Pueblo. 6" tall x 6 1/2" diameter, with a 3" mouth. Signed: MP Juanico Acoma N.M. It is in pristine condition. In 1997 Marietta earned the "Collectors Choice" award at the Phoenix Indian Center Show. The next year she earned the 1st Place ribbon for pottery at the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show. I personally bought this pot from the artist's table on the Mesa top of Acoma Pueblo (Sky City) during a trip between 1997 and 2000 (most likely in 1999 or 2000), and I have been the only owner. Her work is also in museum collections in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Phoenix, Arizona. She has demonstrated her pottery making at various shows and public institutions, including an Indian Market hosted by The Indian Craft Shop at the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C. Marietta was born in 1964 and is the granddaughter of Jose and Helen Patricio; the daughter of Frances and Isidore Concho and the sister of Norbert L. Patricio. Marietta is married to Melvin E Juanico. She learned to pot from her mother, Frances Concho and grandmother, Helen Patricio. Native American Indian Pottery, Acoma Pueblo, M.P. Juanico
