Description
Andy Warhol introduced his first artworks based on the everyday soup cans from Campbell’s in 1962. There were 32 paintings all presented together. One for each of the varieties offered by Campbell’s at the time. When asked why he painted the soup cans he responded, “I used to have the same lunch every day, for twenty years, I guess, the same thing over and over again.” In 2003, Campbell’s released a limited edition series of Andy Warhol soup cans with The Andy Warhol Foundation, which were sold in grocery stores in regions where Andy Warhol had lived. These four soup cans are from that first release and were purchased in Ohio. They are well past their expiration date as food, but as art are as flavorful as the day they were first presented as art by Andy Warhol. Then in 2006, for the holiday season, 12,000 units of the same cans were available through Barney’s, New York. This is the one from Barney’s, New York in Los Angeles. No sign of fading colors, mint cond.
