Came in to purchase a car,  with a big down payment today (03/19/25). I had the car for only  15 mins, and the car started malfunctioning. The car won’t drive over 35 MPH, air bag repair light on, engine light on, tire light on, and an alert for oil life “stop engine” comes on when breaking or coming to a complete stop. When breaking or coming to a complete stop the steering wheel will lock causing the wheel to not turn unless you are pressing on the gas. I was driving down a road where the speed limit is 50MPH, which is very unsafe.

When I came to this dealership at 4:45pm EST. Upon my arrival I met with Darrell. Him and I have been discussing a car for more than 5 days. When I test drove the car, the car was loud and did not drive smoothly. It was a rusty drive. Darrell stated it was because of brakes needing to be fixed. Darrell was going to have the brakes fixed before I drove off, but then stated the car had an air bag issue from when it was previously in a car accident, so I could not leave with that car. Darrell stated I had to get another car, after I already purchased insurance for that car. So I decided to look into getting the same model car just a newer year, we test drove the car for 5 mins and no issues were found. I had to wait for the gps tracker to be placed on the car before leaving, I did not leave until 7:20pm (after the dealership closed at 6pm). I was working with Darrell, but him and all the other sales representatives left. I had to stay behind to wait on a GPS tracker to finish being installed on the vehicle, by the mechanic. No one to clear the car before leaving or confirm everything was okay to leave with the car just the mechanic handing me the keys and saying I’m good to go.

As soon as I started having issues with the car I immediately contacted Darrell for assistance, Darrell wanted me to come back or wait till tomorrow, but Darrell was long gone by this time. I felt it was a hazard to try to make it 15 mins back to the dealership when I was 7 mins from home.

I requested a refund seeing that I did not have this car long (less than 1 hr of having the car is when I requested the refund) it came with many issues, that could have caused my life. Darrel denied the refund but offered that I could apply for the refund back but it wasn’t a guaranteed. I made my down payment method via cash app, since there was no system to use a card or Apple Pay, I don’t see why a refund would be a big issue. None of the paperwork has been mailed or finalized, and the contract states that a cancellation/refund within thirty (30) days of the date of purchase, will receive a full refund.

Darrell advised that he will “fix” the problem rather than refunding my money, denying my request of cancellation of this contract. Darrell only kept mentioning that the mechanic Andrew ( at another location) will handle all my concerns, but did not direct me to how I can request the refund or get a supervisor to help me with the refund. No matter how many times I asked him for this information, he declined to present the “how to” apply for the refund. Darrell advised that I should contact an attorney for legal advice since the cancellation section on the contract did not apply since this business does not do refunds, but after he clearly stated, I could apply for refund request. The contract also states you can cancel the contract, and be fully refunded .

Please be careful getting a vehicle from here, cause now I have to get an attorney for legal help and come out of more money!

Update from 03/19/25, the car went to a shop in Eastpointe to be repaired. In that time being repaired, I was given a rental.

The car had brake issues, a busted power steering pump, the air bags was due to the seat belts needed to be changed, and the cause of not going can go over 35MPH was the brakes and power steering pump.

I received the Chevy Equinox from repair 5 days later on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025. The car still showed the oil alert, and had 12% oil life , tires needing to be replaced and a tire sensor problem . The mechanic said it wasn’t his job to replace it and to contact Darrell.

I notified Darrell again about the issue, and Darrell forgot to tell me when to take the car to ANOTHER shop for the tire sensor issue. I had to go all the way back to Mt. Clemons for an oil change, since that issue was not resolved during the 5 day repair period .

I recently contacted Darrell, Friday March 28th about the car now smoking after going over 60 MPH on the freeway. Have not heard from him until yesterday, Tuesday April 1,2025. Darrell ONLY contacted me because the lender contacted him and he was just telling me they were reaching out to me.

I never received a call, and when talking to the lender, they stated that they told Darrell to have me send over check stubs, that I was never informed about. The lender asked me about the car and I advised the lender of everything that has been going on with the car and the conversations I’ve had with Darrell. The lender stated that I would be contact this morning by Darrell or her.

Darrell contacted me 30 mins before the lender has closed to say the loan was cancelled, warranty on the car is gone, and other requirements of the car . Then stating that I told the lender I wanted to cancel the loan, when the lender and I never discussed cancellation of anything in the manor . Darrell has contacted me more times about removing my previous poor review than he has of telling me what documents are needed for the lender. Now the lender has cancelled .. when the lender and I haven’t talked about cancelling anything.. strange .

I feel like Darrell played me and took manners in his own hands, but stated he doesn’t handle legal concerns of any such. This is a horrible business. Darrell is not reliable, and as a sale representative of this business he’s giving a poor reputation of this business. I hate that I ever trusted this place . Darrell and this business does not abide by their contact that you are signing when getting a car, ANYTHING that you sign for their paperwork does not matter, you’re basically screwed.

As Darrell stated there’s no reason to fight this because Michigan is an “as is” state when it comes to cars . I hate that as a mother that’s expecting, with 2 toddlers at home already… that I don’t have a reliable vehicle for my kids and I. Very upsetting to get attorneys involved.

REPLYING TO THE OWNER: google does not allow customers to reply unless you have a business profile. Unfortunately my issues was not resolved, still have a tire sensor issue and the car smokes going over 60 MPH, which I contacted Darrell about it. That has not been resolved, now we’re having issues with paperwork .. you see ? Ongoing issues that haven’t been resolved, JUST YET . I haven’t been contacted by a supervisor either, I only talk to Darrell. I’ve requested assistance for someone higher than him and still haven’t been assisted with that . Feel free to call me, I’ve been waiting to talk with someone other than Darrell

Darrel, Marissa and Thomas were all so lovely to work with! The process was smooth. As someone who doesn’t have the best credit, they were still able to get me back on the road!! Couldn’t thank them enough for all of their help and would definitely recommend going to see them for a vehicle if you’re in the market!!
