Description

Mechanic’s Special – 2003 Odyssey EX-L w/ grey leather interior DRIVE IT HOME! Needs head gasket or engine to keep on trucking. Runs and drives right now [drive it home!] but will need this repair completed to be great again. 3rd owner, we’ve had this Honda since 2019 @ 216,000 and it has taken us everywhere we’ve ever needed to go. We got it from my sister, because the transmission went, so the first thing we did was install a new transmission [not a rebuild unit] in 2019, and have kept up on maintence, tires, brakes, suspension, etc. The latest work was in August 2025, replaced a broken tie-rod – maintence paper in photos. The van overheated in July when the radiator broke, so it has a new radiator as well – but apparently the damage was done, it has lost power since then and now has CEL for misfires. I replaced the plugs with new NGK that I had on hand, and did compression checks – cylinders 1,3,5 have low [70-80psi] compression, while the other 3 are still close to 200psi. Bore scope on cylinders look clean, I can share of the scope on request. My vision is that if you’ve got a 1999-2005 Odyssey that’s been wrecked, just transfer its engine to this van and you’re set. OR, put in a import V6 J-type engine [not expensive for the quality you get] or a $300 scrap yard engine and keep it on the road. Alternatively, take it for parts!! – there is absolutely no rust on this all-Texan-owned van, and I’ve put a lot of money into it these past 5 years, I use OEM when possible and avoid Chinese knock-off parts. I planned to keep it forever and spent $$ it accordingly since it’s so much cheaper to keep a reliable make going than buying new, but after the engine went down my wife needed a new [2018, new for me] Highlander.
