OBVERSE Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse field of 2021 Solomon Islands Minotaur Labyrinth 1.5 oz Silver Coins. The effigy of the Queen is the Ian Rank-Broadley design from 1998 and is set within a coin-shaped central field. Here, you will find inscriptions of Solomon Islands, 4 Dollars, 2021, and Elizabeth II. This field of the coin depicts Theseus in his armor as he battles the Minotaur in the background. Other inscriptions include 1.5 oz 999.9 AG and a unique serial number. REVERSE The Labyrinth of Crete is shown in the reverse design of the 2021 Solomon Islands Minotaur Labyrinth Silver Coins. This field includes an interactive red ball that moves as you adjust your angle of viewing for the coin. The lone inscription on this side reads Minotaur of Crete. HISTORY To free the Athenians of the sacrifices they had to send to King Minos of Crete following a defeat in war, Theseus volunteered himself to go to Crete as a sacrifice. His goal was to kill the Minotaur so King Minos could no longer sacrifice Athenians to the beast. Theseus needed more than his physical skill to slay the beast, he needed mental acuity to find his way back out of the complex Labyrinth. To game the system, he carried a ball of red string with him that he unfurled as he went in, leaving him a trail to follow on the way out.
