Description
For your consideration, my Kalison Daryl Smith Silverplated CC 4/4 Tuba. This is an ideal horn for an aspiring high schooler and college player who wants their own CC horn. It is exactly what I needed at that age and the only reason I am moving on from it was being able to purchase a 6/4 to make my regular horn. I would love to see this horn go to a home where it will see new life and get regular use. Unfortunately right now, this horn only sees quarterly action when I pull it out to keep the horn from drying out. This Tuba has an 18.5" upright bell and 4 front action pistons of .748" bore with right thumb operated 5th rotor valve. Takes American shank tuba mouthpiece. All of the valves have been vented. The old felt pads have been replaced with Neoprene o-rings. All of the spit valve seals have been replaced. The fifth valve has new hardware and bumpers. The stock thumb ring has been replaced with a larger more comfortable ring, fully adjustable with set screws and allen wrench key. The horn has its wear marks, replaced solder joints, and has had the bell rolled out twice. But over all, it is in great condition. I have owned this horn since 2006. It is such a great player. The sound is warm, dark, with good clarity. It served me well in honor bands, solo contests, college juries, college wind ensemble, and beyond into my less intense playing days. Folks who have played this horn agree that it bats above its weight. A 4/4 that feels like a 5/4 in an orchestral or band setting while staying nimble and fresh for small group settings and solo work. It was an easy transition from this horn to larger York-ish horns, with the back pressure, range, slide arrangement, and tonal center. The valves and slides all move freely and in comparison to my current 6/4 horn, the valves feel so alive in the hand. I cannot describe the ease at which this horn can go up or down in the register. The low end is free, rich, and commanding, the upper register has an accessible, clear, sweetness to it that helped me to learn to love playing in the upper tessitura. I am happy to meet in the PNW area. Portland area is ideal but for a test run, I am happy to meet elsewhere. The horn comes with a hard case and a 2011 Glen Cronkhite soft case that was made by Glen in his prime. Happy to coordinate shipping and such with the buyer, maybe splitting shipping costs? Although I think in person transport is generally better.
