This is a very nicely made, and very nice looking Chinese Cinnabar desk mirror. The way that these are made is there are tons to hundreds of layers of this red lacquer that are spread onto a wood core and then after it is dry it is carved. It gives it a very interesting look, and it takes a whole lot of labor in order to make this. These are from the republic period so they are right around 100 years old. Could use a little bit of cleaning, and will make a very nice display piece for any office. Or just accent for a desk. The mirror has been taped in through the back and it seems like it’s hot in a sunny spot as the back silk covering is a bit sunbleached. Still a nice looking piece on the front.
