Description
pair of vintage 1970's ADC 303AX speakers in good condition. Real wood veneer cabs. Nice sounding 2 way system made in USA. Built between 1971 and 1974, the ADC 303AX is a very similar design to the original Advent Loudspeaker. Each cabinet houses a 10 inch viscous-impregnated fabric surround woofer (so there is no foam to rot like the Advents) and a 2.5 inch viscous-impregnated paper cone tweeter (crossed-over at 1500Hz). At 86 dB efficency, they are 8 ohm impedance; with a published frequency response of 37Hz to 20kHz +/- 3dB. A pair of ADC, Audio Dynamics Corporation, speakers. Model #303AX. They measure 13"wide X 24"high X 12"deep and have a beautiful walnut wood grain finish. They also have individual Mid-range and Treble adjustments. Excellent sound. These were manufactured from 1(contact info removed). Audio Dynamics corporation is better known for it's cartridges and turntable accessories, but they also manufactured very competent acoustic suspension loudspeakers in the 60's and 70's. The drivers in these speakers were manufactured by CTS, who also produced drivers for AR and Rectilinear. The 303's use doped-edge CTS AlNiCo magnet woofers and doped-edge CTS cone tweeters. Specifications: 2-way Driver complement 10" viscous coated, long-excursion acoustic suspension woofer, Tweeter 2.5" vicous impregnated cone with 1.5" radiating surface. Frequency response: 37 Hz-20kHz +- 3 dB. Crossover 1500 Hz Dimensions 23 3/4" H x 13" W x 11 3/4" D Weight: 32 pounds Impedance 8 ohms Controls High--3 dB change in level from 2-20 kHz , Mid--3 dB change in balance from (contact info removed) Hz Case Condition: generally excellent. Mechanical condition. All drivers function well. The woofers have fabric surrounds and will never need refoaming. The grills are a charcoal dark brown tweed with chrome inserts that are in excellent condition. The logo badges are intact. An excellent classic speaker with a warm & smooth sound. The real wood veneer cabinets are in great condition given their age! All drivers are in excellent condition, there is no structural damage to the cabinets, and everything works as it should. The cabinetry is attractive and the vintage brown grills with chrome inserts are striking. An excellent classic speaker with a warm & smooth sound. These speakers were built around CTS Alnico woofers and a CTS tweeter that also has a doped surround, before the infamous yellow phenolic ring tweeter. The sound is very deep in the bass region smooth across the mid range and the highs were surprisingly crisp and clean with great dispersion. Real walnut veneer cabinets are in good shape with all corners square without dings! These speakers sound best and fantastic through the Single Ended tube amps! They are fairly large (24"H X 13"W X 12"D and 32 lbs each) These are very well preserved speakers from the early 1970's. In all original good condition..real classic sound. You will not find these in nicer shape and they are vintage "sleepers" built to last a lifetime. You will not be disappointed!ii
