Description
58 years old! This is a Gone with the Wind (GWTW) style lamp, also sometimes referred to as a parlor lamp or Victorian hurricane lamp. Here are some identifying features: • Double globe design: Both the top and bottom are glass globes, often decorated with floral or scenic patterns. • Glass chimney: Clear glass chimney in the center, characteristic of oil lamps (though most like yours are electric conversions). • Hand-painted floral decoration: A common design element of late 19th- and early 20th-century lamps. • Ornate metal base: Cast metal with intricate Victorian-style detailing. • Milk glass or frosted glass shades: Often with ruffled or crimped edges, just like the top of your lamp. Originally, these lamps were kerosene/oil lamps popular in the late 1800s through early 1900s. Many were later converted to electric, and reproductions were made throughout the mid-20th century.
