Beautiful early 1900’s solid oak China cabinet. Manufactured and sold by the Larkin Soap Co. Factory No. 12 in Buffalo New York. Commonly advertised in the Larkin Catalogs as “Quartered-Oak China Cabinet No. 911.” Made of selected quarter-sawed oak. Three adjustable shelves have tapered edges and are grooved in the back for standing plates. This cabinet features a Flat front and rounded sides with the glass sides being bent to a quarter circle. Completely with all original hinges and hardware with working lock and original skeleton style key. This cabinet stands at an overall height of 53 inches tall 41 inches wide and has an overall exterior depth(including leg protrusion) of approximately 17 inches deep. Actual Cabinet depth is 15 inches. From researching historical archives of the Larkin Soap Company Catalogs, particularly the 1905 catalog, this item was sold with a top valance that apparently rested in two dowel holes at the rear edge on top of the cabinet. The dowel holes are present. However, most recently, we have not known of this cabinet to have had a valance attached as it has passed through the generations of our family. This cabinet also appears to have had its legs shortened. We are unsure if this was a specific request done in the factory upon ordering, or if this alteration was made to “custom fit” or repair a damaged leg. Regardless, unless you are attempting to critique or replicate another sample of this fine piece of craftsmanship, you’d never notice the alteration.
