There is an opening in the top cubby that leads to the area behind the doors, which is where you would put the litter box. They are stackable, two pieces grayand can be put in reverse directions used separately the bottom I usually use for a bed the doors are missing from the bottom cabinet. Last photo is at the bottom cabinet without the doors and I was trying to show a better idea of how you would access the closed cabinet area from the open cubby. they can also be turned in any direction.
